Project Description / Challenge
How do you monetize naturally in an environment with user-generated content? Plus, we were dealing with an old version of MediaWiki software, on top of which the site was built. It was time for an update.
The Solution
First, we were sure to migrate to a newer version of the MediaWiki software (1.11v to 1.17v). Then, we gave the user what they’re looking for. For this project, we added an Orbitz search plug-in to travel specific content. Based on user search interest, the form self-fills to optimize for paid travel, accomodations, or ammenities.
How we worked with the client
The migration of the MediaWiki software wasn’t the only issue, we took part in investigating and migrating a lot of old WikiTravel extensions and custom products. Given initial specs, we provided input on design and logic issues. After the migration, we worked on developing new extensions, so we could meet the site administrator’s requests. Working on bug issues constantly, we also suggested way to enhance user experience.
