The Technology
HTML, CSS3, Ajax, MYSQL, Zend framework, MOO tools, Linux servers, Facebook integration, Google API integration, Java Script, caching strategies
Project Description / Challenge
Creating an account on this site was complicated and became a barrier to use. Additionally, the site’s search feature was weak. SEO did not exist, website speed was slow, and user engagement low. Finally, tracking for paid members was a mess.
The Solution
First, we minimized the number of steps required to create an account and added design changes, which results in an overall increase of registrations by 48-49%. To increase the effect of SEO, we implemented an automated tagging and cross-linking software to recognize and link tagged keywords. Then, we addressed search problems by adding an Amazon/eBay/C-NET search system of categories and sub-topic tagging. Caching helped improve site speed. And we added email notification and interest tagging settings in the registration process to enhance user engagement.
How we worked with the client
Nearshoring allows us real-time communication with our client. We use Skype almost hourly to dialogue with team leads in Germany. But the most noteworthy aspect of this project is the use of Jenkins for quality assurance. Specifically, we use automated unit tests and automated selenium tests to measure and screen our code. The results is code coverage, an understanding of cyclomatic complexities, abstract ions and detection of copy/paste lines of code. What’s more, this metholodogy can and will be reproduced in all GigaVoice projects.
